Kenya Missions Update20 October, 2003Greetings in the Wonderful Name of Jesus the Christ Yesterday, at the Navillus Church of Christ we baptized 8 people! It was a wonderful day! The problem was the water for baptizing. There is a dam with a fairly good sized lake, but it is about 5 kms. (3 miles) from the church building. The 8 people to be baptized and several church members did a kesha on Saturday night. This is a full night of singing, prayers, teaching, repentance and confession. On Sunday morning, we met in the church building for songs and prayers. Then proceeded to the dam. I and some of the other men with bicycles helped some of the people to the railroad, from there they walked. Then I went back for a load of women. The service was in this order: baptisms (with teaching, prayers, singing before), Lord’s Supper, contribution and then the sermon. I was the preacher and by that time all were tired and not very attentive so I only talked for a few minutes. Then we started back to the church where we had maize and beans to eat and tea to drink. Afterwards more prayers. It was a wonderful Christian family (Church) event. I wish you all could have been there. It was no two hour event, we arrived in Navillus at 9:30 AM and left there at 6:00 PM. David Busienei informed me that my battery baptized 23 people. David went for a 3 days to Kinyach at their request. He was to go with the video machine and TV and preach the Word of God. This is in the bush and he has the TV, video unit and inverter, but no battery. So I loaned him the one that I use when I go out showing videos. He showed 5 videos, with them seeing three of them twice. On Sunday they preached and afterwards 23 people repented and were baptized. Praise the Lord! Now it is a big task for the church there to help ground these people in the faith. Pray for Jackson (the main church leader, who is also the chief in the area, so this consumes a lot of his time) and the other people in the church. A couple of weeks ago, I came home and found Kirsten and Ruth taking turns preaching and singing. One would preach in English and then the other. Then they would preach in Kiswahili. Then took turns leading songs in both languages. Our little bilingual girls warm the heart of their parents. May the Lord bless each and every one of you, Keith, Grace, Kirsten & Ruth |
