Kenya Missions Update

26 January, 2004

Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus the Christ!

Last week was a wonderful week! On Tuesday, I had a meeting with the elders in the Kaimosi area churches. It turned out to be a 13 hour meeting in total, finally getting to bed at 1 AM. Then on Saturday, I was to meet with several Kalenjin elders. Two arrived at 10:15 AM almost on time. Cell phones are great, I called Wilson Towett on the phone and he had forgotten about the meeting. He said that he was coming to wait for him. So we talked and ate until he finally came at 2:30 PM. He was telling us that in his area you can get a matatu (pickup that carries people) in the early morning only. He had to walk 6 miles to get one, that is what took him so long. We finally got to Kabomoi and had a second lunch at 4:30 PM. We met until midnight with a supper in between. I was given a bed to sleep in and Clemente and Wilson in the other bed in the same room. As soon as I laid down, I could feel little bites around my waist. What to do, went to sleep! At 5 AM Clemente's alarm on his watch went off. So we all awoke and prayed together. Then we talked until the sun came up. Then off to church outside under the small tree, I forgot the sunscreen, so my face got a bit red. Finally home in the late afternoon.

Another thing happened last week that is exciting. Sammy and Rachel Kibet help us at a 1 acre plot at Sarioyot, which is 2.5 miles from our house. We have set up on this land a lot of the things that are viewed in Mable's Garden Secrets video. Also there is a bread oven there, they supply all the bread to our house and sell to other places as well. I saw Sammy on Wednesday, he said that he had a visitor from Iten who saw Mable's Garden Secrets on TV and wanted to know if such a place really existed or it was just a video. He lives in a small town (Iten) about 25 miles from Eldoret. He is going to plan to bring back the ladies in his church. Also on Wednesday, Jacklyn from the Ministry of Agriculture came with another lady who works with a ladies group. They also saw Mable's Garden Secrets, so I also asked them to go to the plot and have Sammy teach them about all that we are doing there. Then lastly, Kandie called, one of our church evangelist and wanted to schedule to bring a group of ladies from the church to the plot this Wednesday. Praise the Lord!

I have a dream for this plot of land that I will share more with you when we see a lot of you in person. I want one day to build a structure there for teaching and put a TV inside so we can show Mable's Garden Secrets and other videos. This building could also be used to host other meetings that we presently have in town where we rent space from another religious organization. Also as time and money allows to improve the place to the point that we can shoot another video on practical agriculture and other technology for the local population. Pray with us about this!

The Lord is so good!

In Service to Christ, Keith and Grace Gafner
