Kenya Missions UpdateJune 9, 2005Greetings in the Precious Name of Jesus our Lord! We seek and covet your prayers at this time. #1 Pray for Shadrack who was told by the first doctor that he had a cyst on his kidney and they would need to operated. The second doctor said that it was an appendix and first they will treat with antibiotics and if that does not work then he is willing to operate. Who to believe? #2 Pray for ladies from all over Kenya this weekend, starting today as they go to a national ladies meeting. At least 6 are going from the Kaimosi area. They were able to find the $11 each needed to go. Which represents about 9 - 10 days of work in this area of the world. #3 Pray for us this weekend. I will load the car today with deaf Christians who meet at the Pioneer Church of Christ here in town and go to Sotik (about 3 – 3 ˝ hours away). This weekend there will be a seminar for Church of Christ deaf in Kenya. Steve Greek (former missionary to the deaf here in Kenya) and three others from America have come to teach at the seminar. Ruth and Kirsten were to escort me to the meeting, BUT Ruth insisted that she go alone with me, like Kirsten did two years ago. At age three then, Ruth remembers daddies special outing with Kirsten and wants me and her to have a special outing. Kirsten has conceded and will stay home and do ‘girl’ things with her mother and Grace’s sister and 20 month old cousin Sifa. Also pray as I will drive these four visitors to Mbale, Uganda from 17th – 20th, the following weekend. Then they will be in Eldoret until the 23rd. Pray them home, they fly out on the 26th of June. Luyha tribal superstition. It is normal to plant beans in the maize (corn) here in Kenya. The beans will ripen in about 1 month. The maize will start to be eaten green in about October or November, depending on the weather. Because of the lack of greens people will eat the leaves of the beans. We picked some the other day. Mary, who is Luyha and works in our house, insisted that they be boiled instead of fried. Frying them will cause you to have a ‘great’ yield reduction (i.e. boiling won’t). Thanks so much for your prayers for the next 3 weeks! In Service to Christ, Keith, Grace, Kirsten & Ruth Gafner |
