Kenya Missions UpdateNovember 25, 2005Greetings in the Wonderful Name of our Lord, Jesus the Christ! "And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints." Revelation 5:8 First of all, thanks for all of your prayers that you lifted on our behalf over the last month. The Lord has heard and has really blessed us. Not only us, but the country of Kenya as well. On the 21st, we had a National Referendum on a new constitution. It was rejected in a big way, there were some things in it that were not in the best interest of Christianity. Now the President has dissolved his entire cabinet and there are some calls for him to dissolve the Parliament as well. We continue to need your prayers at this time. The president was for the new constitution, and its rejection is seen as a rejection of his presidency. Please continue to lift our family in your prayers. We are presently in the process of moving to an another house. As we take down things from the walls and everything else, the girls have no idea of what is really going on. They know another house exists, but this is the only house that they have known all of their lives. Along with the move, our landline # will be lost, so delete that from your church directory or personal listing for us. But we still can be contacted on our cell phones. (Country code 254) 723-636911 and 735-872788. Our Post Office Box will be the same. Also, we will not be having a landline at the new house, so I will have to come to Eldoret town to do E mails at an Internet Café. Usually I check them each day, but this may not be the case in the future. Town will be 1.8 miles from our new house. So, if you do not get rapid replies to an e mail you send, please bear with us, new habits have to be established! Yesterday being Thanksgiving, you might wonder what we did. We worked in the morning and then for lunch went to join 30+ Americans at the Bloodworth’s house for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. No football on TV, but being all missionaries, we did have lots of things to talk about! One couple is from the Detroit area, they were wondering if the Lions might have one this year! Christmas, we have invited Grace’s family from Nairobi to come and join us. We have already purchased a goat and sheep for the event! Kirsten and Ruth Korner Kirsten closed her school before the national voting. With her special program, and being such a good student, she had in fact started grade two materials several weeks ago. Ruth will continue to go to school until 2nd December. Wednesday, we had a monkey in our chicken house. The chickens were a bit upset to say the least. This is the first monkey we have seen in Eldoret town. He had a belt around his waist. He hung around until Thursday when some young man came and called him by name and he went to him. He was a playful little guy. And he created a lot of excitement for the neighborhood children. Let me talk about my daughter Ruth in this newsletter. She is becoming daddy’s littler helper. Always willing to lend a hand. I brought back some hot pepper seeds from Michigan last year. We grew them and I was taking out seeds for next years crop. Ruth came over to help me do this, and she said so sweetly, " Daddy, I’m a servant!" If she is not stressed for time in the mornings, she likes to lay in bed and just sing in a quiet way. It is so good for our hearts to see the nature of her heart! Prayer Requests Last Saturday, we attended a Youth Rally at the Navillus Church of Christ. It was an exciting day. This Sunday the 27th, we will escort another preacher from here in town who has been asked to come and speak about ‘giving’. The church wants to start building a permanent (brick) building to replace the mud building. I think it is maturity on their part to want teachings in this area and hopefully will take the steps of giving. The Lord’s grace as we move to our new house on the 29th and 30th. And the new habits that will be learned. We are also praying about electricity at the residence, as it has not been installed as of yet. Pray that we don’t stay in the dark for too long! 2nd – 4th Keith will travel to Malaba (2 ¼ hours from Eldoret, on the Ugandan border) for the National Churches of Christ annual leadership training conference. Pray for that meeting and also that Grace and the girls will feel comfortable and safe in the new house. Last week, I went to the Kitale Churches of Christ Orphanage. They have a piece of land that they want to develop for food production for the homes. They presently have 41 orphans and 4 house parents. They were to come to Eldoret on Thursday for a meeting, but had a road accident on the way. We have rescheduled for 9th of December. We want to see about a bread oven, raising milking goats (we would go and visit a friend who is doing that), watch Mable’s Garden Secret’s (they don’t have a TV or video at the orphanage). Pray for the December Youth seminar that will take place in Chepkunyuk. This will take place from 13th to the 19th. As many as 600 youth might show up. Pray for the staff, teachers, cooks, and students. Especially pray for transport for everyone as they travel to and from Chepkunyuk. On the 17th, is also a special Prayer and Fasting Day. Several people will come to a plot of land that is owned by the Church, here close to Eldoret. From 10 AM to 3 PM we want to have a special prayer for the leaders and the Churches of Christ in the Eldoret area. Please pray and fast with us, we are what, 7 or 8 hours ahead of you all in America. Pray also for our support base, you will receive another E mail about this concern. Thanks again for your love and prayers. In Service to Christ, Keith, Grace, Kirsten & Ruth |
