Kenya Missions UpdateApril 4, 2006Greetings in the Name of our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ! Much like the U.S.A., March is the time the weather changes. The sun comes back across the equator, bringing with it the rains. We literally had no rain here in Eldoret since August, last year. The cracks in the soil reminded me of Texas in the summer! Now, everything has turned green – a very pleasant color to the eye! Unless they are weeds in your field, of course! On March 25th, I went to the Toroch Moi area to teach all the churches in that area about maize planting and which fertiliser are the most economical to use. While I taught for 2 ½ hours, one person charged his cell phone off of the car battery. When we ate lunch and went to the field for practicals, another Christian charged his phone. A new missionary service to those with cell phones in the rural areas! We planted two experiments. One was a test for three different varieties. The second was using different amount of fertilisers. When we finished, I went with some brothers to a neighbor’s house. In February, when we attended a cluster meeting in this area, we were given a sheep. That day we went with the Suzuki (4 passengers) so we had no way to bring it home. They gave us this gift as a thanks offering for what we did some years ago by taking in their youth one night when they were stranded on the way home from a youth meeting. Also, for our partnership with them in helping the preacher to build a house on the church plot. This sheep is wild; she is used to the open ranges for grazing. So far she has refused the lush napier grass we have offered her! The girls get off of school from April 7th until May 8th. We have decided to go to Nairobi for Kirsten’s birthday. We haven’t seen the family since Dec ’04, so we have a lot of visiting to do! Ruth’s passport has expired, so got to get a new one. Teeth to be cleaned as well. And my work permit runs out in May, so have to start the process on renewal of that. Some place in there is rest and time to read a book. Hoping to return the day after Easter. Kirsten Korner – Sunday during church she made some book markers out of paper and a pen. She said we are going to buy from her. She wants to make money so she can give her own money to God on Sunday!
