Kenya Missions UpdateJanuary 8, 2008This is a follow up to the newspaper article that I sent
to you. Let me help you read between the lines, so to speak. After listening
to stories of victims and talking to others, it seems very true what the
reporter reported one person say. The elections were just an excuse for
evicting people of the Kikuyu tribe from this area. This was very well planned
by the Kalenjin Tribal leaders! The elections took place on 27th Dec., a
Thursday. Friday and Saturday, there were noted groups of young men in town
from the outside. Sunday morning, while some friends of ours, (their son goes
to school with Kirsten and Ruth) while they were in church, their house was set
on fire. They lost everything. Sunday evening, the election results were announced.
Immediately, a woman told us from one of the estates here in town, there were
100 youth there to burn the house. We talked to a person outside of town who
has a house on the main road, he said that within minutes, youths came in a
truck and set up a roadblock. They were not local youth. Roadblocks were set
up very quickly on all the major roads leading to and from Eldoret. We hear on
the main road to Nairobi, they took out a bridge and made trenches in the road
so that no traffic could go on the road. We also hear on Monday, very early in the morning, young
men warriors of a tribe about 60 – 80 Km (40 – 50 miles) from here
we noted as coming into town, fully equipped for war. They were used to kill
and burn houses. A lot of the people said that their houses were burned by
outsiders. One lady told us that it was her husbands best friend (they Kikluyu
and the best friend a Kalenjin) who burned their house. How can you come back
when your best friend burns your house! Lastly, the report says they wanted to destroy the town.
We hear the plan was to drive all the Kikuyus to town and then come and finish
them off in town. Praise the Lord, He heard your prayers along with ours and
the peoples and prevented this from happening. Eldoret will never be the same! We will never be the
same! The Kalenjin tribal leaders have brought down a Big Curse on
themselves. Thanks for listening, I needed someone to listen. Our hearts
are breaking, keep us in prayers! In Service to Christ, Keith Now the big problem is that young men are looting houses
of those who people who left. So, even if you weren’t burned out, you
still may have nothing when you go home. At Saroiyot, I was told young men
come and tell the people we are going to burn you out tonight. So the people
sleep in the bush. Then they come and steal from the house. |
