Kenya Missions UpdateJanuary 15, 2008Gafner Family Update Sorry, I haven’t written in a few days and people
wonder how we are. Let me briefly let you know what is going on in our lives. We moved home last Thursday. We found that the Lord had
protected everything that He has given to us. Praise Him. As an additional
benefit, we have learned many lessons along the way, such as what to value in
life and how to give. About 200 yards from our house is an encampment of
police officers. They have taken over a house on the road coming to our
house. Their outpost just down the road was burned down by the raiders. So,
that adds to our thoughts on being a bit more secure than before. But you
might ask, if they got burned out before, why not again? Well, they have
brought in many new police officers from outside. That was one of the problems
before, the officers here let the people do the burning and looting and
killing. Pray! 1.
Today they open Parliament and choose the Speaker of
the House. The first political struggle for both sides, to get someone who
‘favors’ them. 2.
Today, Former UN man (Annan) is to be here to see if he
can get both sides to sit down and talk of a peaceful plan for power sharing. 3.
Wed. – Friday, mass action has been called in all
major cities by the ODM who lost. The Government says they will not take place. 4.
Schools were to open yesterday, but the Union of
teachers told the teachers not to report until next week. 5.
High tension in the air. Revenge killings are taking
place. Now, Luyhas are moving out of the ‘slums’ of Eldoret as
well. Some of them apparently have helped the Kalenjins. And today we will be
giving aid to Kalenjins who have been burned out by Kikuyus as revenge. 6.
I have been told that there are some areas I should not
come as of yet to do mission work, as my wife is of the Kikuyu tribe,
therefore, I am also a marked man! I will be sending a report, hopefully at the end of the week
so that you will know how the monies that you sent have been used. Thanks for all of your prayers J In Service to the King, Keith for the Gafner’s |
