Kenya Missions UpdateFebruary 10, 2008Greetings in the name of Jesus! Thought would send you a short update on the things going
on in Eldoret, Kenya. First the bad/good news. On Friday last week, there
were at least 5 houses burnt in Huruma, one of the highly dense areas of people
located just outside of town. We heard of several reasons why it started, so
who knows for sure what started it. But officially, there were 43 arrested as
we heard on the news. Unofficially, we heard that 6 died (by the police). But
it was over very quickly, as the police and GSU were close by and contained it
quickly. This on the other side of town from us, so there was no danger to
us. Good news – I believe a result of many prayers
around the world. We are told that a political breakthrough may happen as
early as this week in the talks lead by Kofi Annan in Nairobi. Praise the
Lord! Keep praying, it isn’t over yet! Good news – teacher Elizabeth has come back to town
and school will start on Monday, tomorrow for the girls! Praise the Lord! Good news – a new ministry has developed because of
this situation. We have 40 policemen just down the road from us. The
Inspector (the boss there) is a Christian. After visiting with him, we were
invited today to come and share a Word from the Lord with them. So, from 9
until 10:15 today, we as a family went down and sang and I preached a lesson on
Matthew 5:9. We were well received, with about 20 officers in attendance. You
could sense that most of them did not know about Christ. I did see one Bible
amongst them. We were invited back to share more. We also hope to share with
them some of Oneal Tankersley’s Christian video’s that he made.
Pray as we start this new ministry. At the end, we were thanked for coming and one policeman
made the comment that most people do not think that policemen can be
Christians. Thanks for coming! Our girls might be the only ones in Kenya who
wave when we see a policeman on the road, we are trying to instill in them that
even in Kenya, police are our friends and not our enemies! Well, keep your eyes open for opportunities to serve the
Lord! In Service to Christ, Keith for the Gafner Family |
